Financial planning · Australia

A plan for the whole picture, not just this week’s shop.

Budgeting answers what’s left this fortnight. Financial planning is what you do when the questions get bigger than groceries — super, insurance, school fees, a house, the years after the kids leave.

What it actually is

A licensed person, a written plan.

Financial planning is sitting down with an Australian financial adviser and putting income, debts, super, insurance and goals into one document you can follow. It’s not a vibe, and it’s not a spreadsheet you abandon in January.

You talk about the household as it is — shift work, child support, a HECS balance, the parent who’s quietly covering extras. They come back with a Statement of Advice: what to do, in what order, and what it costs. Some advice fees can come from super.

The point is financial security so you can focus on the family, not a promise about the share market or house prices. Nobody can guarantee those. A good planner won’t pretend they can.

What it covers

The questions bigger than the shop.

Cashflow that survives real life

Maternity leave, a second child, a car that dies. A plan says which bills flex and which ones don’t, before the fortnight does it for you.

Super, used on purpose

Most of us have an account. Fewer of us have a reason. An adviser looks at contributions, insurance inside super, and whether the fund still fits.

Insurance that matches the risk

Income protection, life, TPD — not a flyer, a number that would actually keep the rent paid if someone couldn’t work.

School, a house, later

Education, a first home, or the years after the kids leave. One written roadmap instead of three separate panics.

What it isn’t

Not a budget app

The workshop on this site keeps the fortnight honest. Planning is the longer map those numbers sit inside.

Not a mortgage broker

Rates and structure live on the Loans tab with Borro. A planner looks at whether the loan still fits the rest of the household.

Not a counsellor

Financial counsellors are free hardship help. Planners are licensed advisers who write a Statement of Advice you can follow.
